QSong + UQ + Sydney + ElectroStatik Vol. 1
News
qsongWe are very pleased and excited to let you know that with our track 'Little Beat' we are shortlisted as a Q Song finalist in the New Music / Electronic category. It's wonderful to get this recognition in our music genre. We'll find out the winners at the 2008 Q Song Awards Cermony at the Tivoli Theatre on August 12th, 2008. It's exciting to be up against one of our local heroes, sound artist Lawrence English, as well as Misinterprotato drummer John 'Oxford' Parker and dance electronica boys Christopher Robin. If you'd like to listen to the other nominees in ours and many other categories, the website to check out is www.qsong.com.au. You'll find some great music there.

We're also heading to Sydney! Brisbane is losing the lovely Kristine from Imagination Revolutions, and as part of her move to Sydney, she's putting on a show up here and a show down there. It's the 'Social Assassin Tour'. Doing the trip with us are Brisbane bands Empty Art and the The Mercy Dolls. We'll be at the Red Room at UQ, St Lucia, on Friday July 25th and then playing at The Lansdowne Hotel (2-6 City Rd Chippendale) in Sydney on Saturday July 26th. The Red Room show is $5 entry and we are on at 9 pm (doors open at 6). Not sure about set times for the Lansdowne but entry there is free. So let your Sydney friends know to come see us! It's kindly presented by Imagination Revolutions (http://www.myspace.com/imaginationrevolutions) and Under the Blue Moon Festival (http://www.underthebluemoon.org.au/).

We've also just been included on our first international compilation CD. We were invited to include a track and so 'No I have not told anyone about us' is on the electronic music compilation CD 'ElectroStatik Vol. 1' just put out by 272 Records in the USA. If you would like to get a copy and open you ears to some other great electronic music, the website is http://www.272records.com/272_Records/ElectroStatik_Vol._1.html.

One last thing... Anthony has been working hard on mixing and editing tracks for our next EP. To see what he means by 'Recording Shoes' check out the blog on our website (www.dizzygotheca.com). Cute, I know. I want a pair. :)

Listen to Dizzygotheca on 4ZzZ’s Live and Local Show
News

Hi Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago we spent a fun Friday night recording a live set at Wavelength Recording in Nundah.

This is part of 4ZzZ's Live and Local show which broadcasts on Sunday evenings from 6 to 7 pm, hosted by the lovely Robyn.

Our recording is being broadcast this Sunday night (August 3) from 6pm, so if you are around Brisbane (or within the approximately 100 km radius that the signal reaches to) please tune in to 4ZzZ. The frequency is 102.1fm.

We recorded quite a few new songs and a few old ones.

Hope you enjoy listening.

xx Heidi

Review of Holding Pattern:

Dizzygotheca are an electronica/dark wave duo hailing from Brisbane. Holding Pattern, their debut EP consists of nine tracks of glitchy, textured beats, ethereal sound scapes and layerings of haunting vocals. Heidi, the feminine side of Dizzygotheca, weaves her words around Anthony’s beats, slowly creating a blanket of sound with which the listeners can wrap themselves. Clearly influenced by bands like Portishead, Aphex Twin and Sigur Ros, Dizzygotheca bring their own fresh, and uniquely Australian sound to the often stale and stagnant electronica genre.

The tracks on Holding Pattern are nothing short of beautiful. Singing of truth, love, beauty, truth, and our natural world, Dizzygotheca have laid down the soundtrack for a film that doesn’t yet exist. Standouts are Cocoon, which is so hauntingly touching you are almost saddened when the track draws to a close, 1000 Seas, with a distinct Bjork influence, and I (Heart) Robots, which came in at number 34 in local radio 4ZzZ’s Hot 100 of 2007.

The packaging of Holding Pattern seems to be something special too. Hand printed on 100% recycled cardboard, and numbered, each copy is its own little masterpiece. Regrettably, I purchased the EP on iTunes, but will no doubt get a physical copy in the near future.
